Intelligent Lighting Institute – TU/e

'intelligent light instituteThe TU/e Intelligent Lighting Institute (ILI) was established in 2010 to investigate novel intelligent lighting solutions that will become within our reach by the large-scale introduction of LED technology, with a special emphasis on how these new solutions might affect people. We do this in collaboration with departments of the TU/e and partners in the public and private sectors. The lighting research performed at ILI is producing unique know-how and a technological head start for the participating parties, the Brainport Region, and as part of Europe.

De-escalate is embedded in the Sound Lighting programme line of ILI.

Municipality of Eindhoven

'polygroundFor the municipality Eindhoven, safety and security in entertainment areas are very important issues. Having fun, feeling pleasant and safe are main keywords in those territories. At the Stratumseind in Eindhoven, a relatively small but very busy entertainment street with many bars, quality of secure amusement, pleasure and recreation for mainly youngsters is topic number one.

Eindhoven has designated Stratumseind as LivingLab, and fitted it with numerous non-privacy invading sensors to inspire and facilitate social innovation, and to monitor the effect of innovative interventions. De-escalate is the first large and scientifically founded project geared to increasing quality of life in this area, with preventive and reactive light scenarios. The local government is optimistic and full of trust that De-escalate will bring the answer for positive behaviour amongst adolescents in recreation areas such as Stratumseind.

GGzE Geestelijke Gezondheidszorg Eindhoven en De Kempen (GGzE)

'polygroundGGzE (Institute of Mental Health Care Eindhoven and De Kempen) offers counselling, treatment and support to people with different mental health problems or psychiatric disorders such as depression, addiction, and schizophrenia. Our central aim is to maximise every individual's active participation in society.

Scientific research is one of the foundations of GGzE's activities. Our goal is to generate new insights that can directly be employed in the care and treatment we provide. GGzE collaborates closely with universities and centres of expertise in applied and fundamental research.

GGzE's perspective in De-escalate pertains to the use of dynamic lighting for de-escalation and exploring its integration with current means to de-escalate psychiatric inpatients.

Dutch Institute for Technology, Safety & Security (fieldlabs)

'polygroundThe Dutch Institute for Technology, Safety & Security (DITSS) focuses on technological and social innovation in the fields of Security & Safety in a social context. These innovations originate from the top technology of the knowledge institutes and companies in South East Brabant and from social innovation, the main strength of Central Brabant.

The government, businesses, knowledge institutes and educational institutes are all involved in safety in different ways and with different levels of responsibility. Oftentimes, solutions for safety issues can be found in technological developments, yet require insights and involvement from social and behavioural sciences.

LivingLabs are the testing grounds of DITSS where the parties collaborate to realise the best possible development of knowledge and the most effective solutions. These solutions are implemented and tested against social and legal demands, thus creating proven, new applications as well as business opportunities for companies participating in these projects.
